Got an old table?  Need a new desk?

Instead of going out and spending money on a brand-new piece, why not let me repurpose the one you have? Or give your tired old furniture a new life by just refinishing/repainting/stenciling it?

Turn an old door into a table top, or an armoire into a craft center.  Or just give your old childhood dresser a little spunk by adding a new paint color or faux treatment - or how about decoupage with some old sheet music or French newspapers?

See below for some "before" and "afters:"

Free furniture!

I wish I had a "before" picture of this great cabinet.  A friend of mine in the real estate biz here in NYC found it in the basement of an apartment building in East Harlem, and the super of the building gladly gave it to me!  It was quite a project to refinish!  It had layer-upon-layer of paint, rusted hinges, and ugly door and drawer handles.  The original glass door panels had long since been painted over.

The old cabinet hardware...

Pretty, new (but vintage-inspired!) glass knobs and drawer pulls!

Now...!

I repainted the entire cabinet, replaced the painted-over glass door panels with beautiful beveled glass panels, added the new hardware (as noted above), and used pom-pom fringe on the shelves for a little whimsy.

Great bathroom storage!

In this photo you also see a bench/window seat I made from a pre-fab wooden cube, by adding bun feet, a coat of paint, and a cushioned seat.  More storage!

Before, diamond in the rough...
Just your average, run-of-the-mill unfinished wardrobe piece (seen here with a coat of white primer).

...after, what a gem!

A day's worth of work, including a coat of glossy black paint, wallpapered panels, and new brushed metal door pulls.  If it's too "spendy" to wallpaper your entire room, add a nice accent by using a rich-looking wallpaper on your old furniture instead - for a fraction of the cost!
